IF har fået ny hjemmeside, gå til : www.internationaltforum.dk - men vi lader den gamle stå lidt endnu da vi ikke har fået flyttet alt endnu (januar 2004) |
What is Internationalt Forum
International Forum (IF) works to support and inform about popular movements
around the world fighting to free them selves from exploitation and suppression.
This can be done through the organisation of workers and through labour conflicts,
armed rebellion and resistance, women's struggle for liberation, landless farmers'
land occupation., indians fighting for better living conditions or people in
the slum striving for a decent life. We consider us selves to be anti imperialists
and we see global capitalism - the neo-imperialism - as the main reason for
people being divided into rich and poor. But active anti-imperialistic work
is not only about the third world and people far from here. We in the western
world must also fight privatisation, the EU growing into a superpower, environmental
damages, and the many attacks on the living conditions of ordinary people. IF
is an organisation which on a global level tries to contribute to the struggle
against the neo-liberalism and for a constructive and mutual solidarity among
people all over the world. Today, more than ever before, there is a need for
international solidarity. The New World Order has been proclaimed and the USA
now stand, confident of success, as the police officer of the world. But the
New World Order has not changed the conditions coursing the poverty of millions.
On the contrary , the suppression and polarisation has increased; in the third
world countries, also in Europe, and especially in the USA. The global capitalism
ravage freely and ruthlessly. Meanwhile the transnational companies experience
groovy days with giant profits, ever bigger shares of, and influence on, the
world market. The agenda of the world is set in a far from democratic way in
UN Security Council, G7, the World Bank, IMF, WTO, NAFTA and OECD.
IF-activities
Four times a year IF publishes GAIA; a magazine in Danish; each edition with
its own view on matters of the global political game. In addition there is news
from all over the world - news that does not get out through the established
press. Members living in Denmark receive GAIA for free. Subscription is 100
dkr. a year.
Every year IF arranges study tours to the countries we are involved with and
to which we have developed a solidarity relationship. The scene of the study
tours can for example be Palestine, Chiapas or the Bascue Country.
Peace guards
We also send peace activists to Chiapas in Mexico and to Palestine (in cooperation
with the Danish network "Palæstina Fredsvagter"), where you
work as an observer and as a "guaranty" against military harassment
of the population and villages.
Internationalt Forum’s Solidarity Fond
IF runs a solidarity fond. The idea is to collect means for progressive anti-imperialist
movements and organisations around the world. We mainly support projects and
groups in Latin America and the Middle East..
IF’s informationshop
In Copenhagen we have a shop where you can get all our materials, magazines,
books, T-shirts, folders and information on the country groups. The shop is
open daily from 13 to 17 along with the photo-archive, video-archive and library.
The groups
The heart of IF and its activities is the country- and subject- groups. The
groups are open for anyone who can work within the political guidelines of our
organization, and you are welcome to get in touch with the individual groups
if you want to engage in one or more them. For the time being there are groups
working with Colombia; Mexico; the Middle East including Palestine; the Basque
Country; and political prisoners. The groups base their work on IF's politics
and program, but end up with very different activities due to differences in
their understanding of solidarity and the conditions in the various countries
with which they work. The groups invite union leaders, human rights activists
and others to give lectures and Colombia- and Mexico-groups publish a newsletter
on what is happening in the two countries and send peace activists to the autonomous
indigenous villages in Chiapas. The Middle East-group supports the rights of
the Palestinian population to resist the Israeli occupation; womens rights in
Iran; the demand for a free Kurdistan and work aganins the US war on the population
of Iraq.
IF-divisions in Denmark
IF has local divisions in Copenhagen, Svendborg, Aarhus, Aalborg, Odense and
Maribo. Most country groups are situated in Copenhagen. You can contact each
local group to learn more about their activities. No matter where, you can start
up groups on countries or subjects in connection with the nearest local group.
Every second month representatives from each group meet to evaluate and plan
IF's future activities.
