Pressemeddelelse fra Batasuna:
On hunger strike to defend the Basque people from constant aggression.
A large selection of the National Executive of Batasuna began at the
beginning of this week a
hunger strike (fast) in Iruñea, the capital of the Basque Country,
to condemn the repeated attacks
against the Basque Country and the violation of rights that the population
is being subjected to. The
protest will end this Saturday, coinciding with a national demonstration
to be held in Donostia.
10 days after the 16 members of the youth organisation Segi - the youth
organisation that was
declared illegal by Judge Garzón two weeks ago- began the hunger
strike in Iruñea, representatives
of the national executive of Batasuna joined the form of protest as a
response to the constant
aggressions that the Basque Country has suffered in the last few years
at the hands of the French
and Spanish States. This aggression is of a very wide nature, and can
be seen in all areas of social,
cultural, economic and political activity of this country.
Batasuna met various bodies on a Basque level during the days of the
strike, with the aim of
achieving the direct involvement in the responses to both States. Thus,
Batasuna will invite
political, social and trade union bodies in this country that they take
over the hunger strike from
Segi, which they began on February 2nd.
Thus, the strikers have made a manifesto that will be attached so that
they protest of the different
sectors will reach the Spanish and French States. You can express your
opinion by writing to the
following address.
